Global superstar Simu Liu officially joined the A-list lineup at Merlin Entertainments’ Madame Tussauds as the actor personally unveiled two new wax figures - one for Madame Tussauds New York and another for Madame Tussauds Orlando. Liu met and posed with his wax twins in New York City, creating a true triple-take moment that highlighted the artistry behind the world’s most famous wax museum.
The Madame Tussauds New York figure is styled in a powder-blue Versace suit inspired by Liu’s appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of “Barbie.” The look includes a matching harness with gold hardware layered over a crisp white shirt, paired with dark green loafers and accessories inspired by the jewelry and watch worn at the event.
“The fact that you recreated the outfits, especially the custom Versace that I wore for the premiere of ‘Barbie,' it’s so intricate,” said Liu. “I appreciate that it’s me and not a character...this is Simu.”
Liu’s Madame Tussauds Orlando figure features a rich mulberry-colored suit inspired by his look at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. The outfit includes a coordinating dress shirt worn open at the collar, matching dress shoes and socks, and accessories reflecting the actor’s signature red carpet style.
Capturing Liu’s likeness required the work of 20 of Madame Tussauds’ studio artists, who began the process with a detailed sitting session with Liu, during which more than 200 precise measurements and reference photographs were taken from every angle. Using these references, sculptors crafted a clay model of the actor’s likeness before creating a wax cast that forms the foundation of the final figure. Once the wax form is cast, artists apply layers of oil-based paint to replicate realistic skin tones, while the hair is inserted strand by strand before being carefully cut and styled.
Madame Tussauds offers guests the chance to meet their favorite A-list celebrities through immersive, interactive experiences inspired by the unique culture and energy of each host city. The craft behind each figure continues a legacy that began more than 250 years ago, when Marie Tussaud pioneered the art of wax figure making.
Liu rose to international prominence starring in “Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” becoming the first Asian superhero to headline a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first gained widespread recognition for his breakout role in the award-winning comedy series “Kim’s Convenience,” and has since appeared in major films including “Barbie,” while also emerging as a prominent voice for representation in the entertainment industry.
Guests visiting Madame Tussauds New York and Madame Tussauds Orlando can now step into the spotlight and strike a pose with Simu Liu’s remarkably lifelike wax figures at Madame Tussauds New York, located in the heart of Times Square and Madame Tussauds Orlando at ICON Park beginning in mid-April.
