SeaWorld Debuts Live Sea Otter Cam, Providing a Front Row Seat to the Care and Daily Lives of the Remarkable and Adorable Southern Sea Otter!

SeaWorld San Diego is introducing a new way for audiences to connect with one of its most beloved animals through the launch of the Sea Otter Live Cam. This new digital experience brings the park’s adorable sea otters directly to homes, laptops, and mobile devices, offering an engaging, behind‑the‑scenes look at the unique personalities and behaviors of these charismatic animals.  Beginning May 11, the live stream will broadcast daily from 10AM – 4PM from the Sea Otter Encounter habitat, providing viewers worldwide with real‑time access to the otters’ daily routines and interactions. Viewers can watch at https://seaworld.com/san-diego/live-cameras/sea-otters/.

Southern sea otters are currently listed as a threatened species, and as part of SeaWorld’s commitment to helping distressed, ill, and orphaned animals, SeaWorld San Diego’s otters were once rescued along the California coast and have been rehabilitated and deemed non-releasable by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The new live cam offers viewers a rare and intimate opportunity to learn more about these remarkable animals, including SeaWorld San Diego’s five resident otters—Coco, Mocha, Chilly, Bennett, and Jane. Each otter has its own unique personality and story, and the live stream allows audiences to get to know them while observing the park’s animal care team in action. Viewers can watch as the team provides daily feeding, habitat cleaning, enrichment activities, health evaluations, and the otters’ signature ice baths. Throughout the day, the cam also showcases the otters playing, exploring, and interacting with one another, offering an engaging look into their natural behaviors and social dynamics.

“Sea otters are some of the most engaging and charismatic animals in our care, and the debut of the Otter Cam offers a unique opportunity for guests to connect with them in a whole new way,” said Pete Peters, Zoological Curator. “At SeaWorld, our mission is to educate and inspire people to care about marine life and the environments they depend on. By providing up-close views from within their habitat, we hope to showcase the playful personalities and important role sea otters play in their ecosystems, sparking curiosity, awareness and a deeper appreciation for these incredible animals—no matter where you’re watching from.”

For decades, SeaWorld, an AZA-accredited facility providing the highest standard in animal care, has been helping otters in distress as part of a network of accredited facilities. The goal of this network of experts is to support the conservation and recovery of southern sea otters. Found exclusively along the coast of Central California, southern sea otters can also be seen at Wild Arctic, where SeaWorld guests can visit them up close. With the launch of the live cam, SeaWorld San Diego brings the public closer to understanding these animals and the ongoing conservation efforts dedicated to their protection.

Last December, SeaWorld San Diego also launched a Penguin Cam that streams daily from the Penguin Encounter. Viewers will get an up-close view of over 200 cold- temperate penguins at SeaWorld San Diego, including five species of penguins - King, Adelie, Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Macaroni. As part of this exclusive peek inside their chilly habitat, viewers can discover how SeaWorld cares for these remarkable animals—from feeding and cleaning to enrichment activities, health exams, and the daily addition of more than 4,000 pounds of fresh snow. Viewers can see penguins interacting with one another and our animal care team 24 hours a day and view at https://seaworld.com/san-diego/live-cameras/penguins/
